We don’t believe it’s really possible to enjoy meaningful relationships with other people just by coming to worship on Sunday mornings. That’s why we encourage people to get involved by serving in a Sunday morning or outreach ministry and by joining a group. We understand that it’s often “awkward” for someone new to join an existing group, so we start new groups two ways:
By hosting a mixer or “starter” event for a new group that’s forming (around a stage of life, study interest, or hobby), and
By hosting a mixer or “starter” event for several groups that are forming at the same time.
These mixer or “starter” events are designed to put people at ease (and level the playing field), and they are usually followed by several get-togethers where members of the new group determine if there is the right chemistry and “fit” to continue. We’ve found that starting groups this way helps eliminate some of the natural anxiety as well as help groups of people get off to a good start together.
